Development of Consciousness Requirements

Development of Consciousness (DC) Requirements

The entire University campus has two regular group meditation sessions, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. This twice-a-day group practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique is part of a Development of Consciousness (DC) course that is required for each student. When classes are in session, the morning session is done as a group in Dalby Hall prior to breakfast, and the afternoon session is in class. All students are automatically enrolled in this course each semester for each block enrolled in school and for each block living on-campus doing internship search or working on staff. Academic credit is given for the DC courses. (Students also practice the Transcendental Meditation technique for an additional 15 minute period in class at the end of the morning lecture and just before lunch.) DC course grades are based on each student’s participation in the class meditation, as well as completing the requirement of 4 personal TM checkings, and attending a minimum of 4 TM Knowledge meetings over their time on campus, and will be either a Pass (P) or Fail (F) grade. This grade will be assigned at the end of the semester and will be based on the average of the student’s RC participation over all the blocks for which the student is registered in the semester. If a student has a DC grade of less than P, and leaves campus to begin his CPT part of the degree or for internship search activities, that student will be required to fulfill the missing requirements at the local Transcendental Meditation Center in the town the student is living/working in. This must be completed at least one month before the date of graduation.

Morning Group Meditation Policy and Procedure

Students need to attend 60% of the Dalby morning meditations over the aggregate of their regular computer science courses in order to graduate.
Students who withdraw from a CS course (take a month break) are still required to attend 60% of these morning meditations during that break time. The exception to this policy is when a student takes an official LOA and withdraws from the program.

Attendance at morning group meditation during SCI and Forest Academy courses must be 80% or more.

Students may earn extra credit towards their final grade in a computer science course if they have outstanding attendance at the morning meditations for any specific computer science block.
Recommended percentage:
* 70% and above: 0.5% EC (16 days in a standard block)
* 80% and above: 1.0% EC (18 days in a standard block)
* 90% and above: 1.5% EC (20 days in a standard block)

For a given block 60% of 22 days would be 14 days or more. Students can attend fewer than that some blocks if they make up the difference in other blocks. Attendance deficiencies can be remedied by participating in TM Retreats either on campus or at the local TM center once you have left. A 2-day TM retreat (usually Friday night – Sunday noon) will count for 15 meditations and will require only a $20.00 fee to participate. These are the only TM Retreats currently available on Campus for Compro students. TM Retreats and Residence Course are available in the different TM centers around the country usually at a cost of $200-$300 per weekend. This policy will take effect October 2018.
